A new industry collaboration showcases how plant-based and low-carbon denim can transform the textile supply chain. The project brings together key global players to create Naturalls, a sustainable denim collection. The involved companies include The Lycra Company, Avalo, Neela by Sapphire Fibers Ltd., and Soko. They presented this project during Climate Week NYC.
Every piece of clothing begins in a field. Climate change places huge demands on modern farming. Designers and product developers need sustainable choices that deliver high performance. This collaboration proves that fashion can achieve high impact without trading off innovation.
The fabrics in this collection offer exceptional softness. They feature a combination of Low-Footprint Cotton from Avalo and Renewable Lycra fiber from The Lycra Company. The cotton requires zero irrigation and uses 75 percent less fertilizer. It also generates half the carbon emissions of conventionally grown cotton. The Renewable Lycra fiber contains 70 percent renewable content. This lowers the fiber carbon footprint by up to 45 percent compared to standard spandex.
Neela managed the spinning, weaving, and garment production. The mill focused on strong fabric aesthetics, comfort, and visual appeal. Soko applied its advanced Hydrogel and Rare technologies for garment finishing. Hydrogel turns water into a gel and allows multiple treatments in one bath. This process cuts water consumption by up to 85 percent, energy use by up to 68 percent, and processing time by up to 50 percent. The Rare technology uses naturally derived mineral pigments and natural binders to create rich shades.
