Mahadevapura MLA Aravind Limbavali (BJP) has urged the technology companies in his constituency to spend at least a quarter of their CSR budget on public infrastructure in the constituency that is home to hundreds of globally well-known companies.
Limbavali, who is also a former minister, has also urged them to hire locals for low-end jobs. He said he has come across instances of tech companies hiring illegal immigrants from Bangladesh for low-end, unskilled jobs.
The MLA aired his demands at the launch of a state-of-the-art R&D facility by Intel on Friday and urged Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar to use his clout with chief minister Basavaraj Bommai to allocate more funds for uplifting his constituency as it is home to many tech companies, employing lakhs of people.
The companies in his constituency are the highest taxpayers to the local body BBMP, the state and the central governments, the senior BJP leader said, and added that he would expect the “double-engine” government to provide more funds to Mahadevapura’s development.
At the same time, he also told the tech companies that they should spare a look at the government buildings housing schools, colleges, and hospitals in the vicinity which are in a bad shape for funds. He urged them to spend a part of their CSR budget to improve the public infrastructure including buying of equipment to hospitals, schools and colleges.
Mahadevapura on the outskirts of Bengaluru is home to hundreds of tech companies including HP, Wipro NSE 1.81 %, Intel, Accenture and Capgemini, and many technology parks.
