Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL), which runs a 3.9-kilometer stretch from Vani Vihar to Sishu Bhawan, has established bamboo barricades along the medians to deter theft and ensure a greener future. The iron grills that were laid up along the median were robbed. The BSCL decided to substitute iron mesh with bamboo because it is costly and requires regular cleaning to prevent rusting. The BSCL said that putting up a bamboo barricade would help with greenery.

The iron grills are expensive. We chose a replacement that was cost effective and would necessitate little maintenance. Bamboo has been found to be grown at various places in Kolkata. According to BMC commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh, the bamboo will also help promote a green Janpath.

The BSCL introduced a rule in December last year to eliminate webs of overhead cables, giving the Janpath a cluttered appearance. This procedure would make it possible for private companies to utilize the BSCL’s 680-kilometer optical fiber cable (OFC) to gain internet service. It is now in operation on 501 kilometers from the 680 OFC laid by BSCL. Since being given the Smart City badge, the Janpath has been turned into a smart Janpath.

In another development, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has started a clean Smart Janpath campaign to raise awareness among vendors who have been given smart kiosks. The smart kiosks litter the Janpath without proper care, such as twin dustbins for wet and dry waste.
