THAILAND came first among Asean countries in a survey on corporate social responsibility by the respected National University of Singapore (NUS) and Asean CSR Network, it was revealed. “The findings were surprising to many people who thought Singapore would take the top place,” said Professor Lawrence Loh, director of NUS Business School’s Governance Institute.
The government has asked the country’s top 50 companies to fund incubators as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) spend, a move meant to strengthen the startup ecosystem. Large companies have to allocate 2% of their profits towards CSR but have competing demands – from building toilets to funding education.
