PUPILS of a rural school in Marudi, Sarawak, are enjoying clean water thanks to a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
The initiative was implemented under the Malaysia Airports AquaSustain project at SK Lubok Nibong, under the Madani School Adoption Programme.
The MyAirportCares CSR programme involved installation of pipes connected directly to the water main, ensuring clean water for the school’s 65 pupils, teachers and staff, according to a media release by Malaysia Airports.
Contributions also included school supplies and full sets of new uniforms.
The children later joined an awareness session on the importance of clean water in terms of hygiene, health and lifestyle.
Malaysia Airports managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the project reflected its commitment to empowering rural children with opportunities and relevant support.
“Beyond academic aid, we believe that a conducive environment is a key element in building confidence, enhancing well-being and unlocking their potential to grow.
“As an airport operator, our social responsibility is to ensure that communities surrounding our operations also benefit.”
SK Lubok Nibong is located near one of Malaysia Airports’ short take-off and landing ports (STOLports).
Through the Madani School Adoption Programme, Malaysia Airports not only provides academic support but also focuses on creating a better environment for learning and personal development, particularly in rural areas.
Since it was introduced in 2018, MyAirportCares had reached thousands of students through various educational and welfare initiatives, Malaysia Airports said.
Among them is “Ceria Kembali Ke Sekolah” which has provided schooling assistance to more than 4,500 students.
Another initiative includes airport visits that have introduced more than 3,300 students to career opportunities in the aviation industry.
With the completion of the AquaSustain project, Malaysia Airports said it was confident that access to clean water, combined with continued education support, would bring lasting benefits not only to students and teachers, but also to the surrounding community
