AIIMS Patna Starts Newborn and Child Safety Week with Awareness Programmes

AIIMS Patna has started a week-long programme to spread awareness about the safety of newborns and children. The campaign began on 8 September under the Patient Safety Cell of the hospital. Doctors said the aim is to make people more aware of the care needed during pregnancy and early childhood so that mothers and babies stay healthy.

The programme is being held under the guidance of executive director Dr S Varshney. Speaking at the event, nodal patient safety officer Dr Divendu Bhushan said every pregnant woman should know about the importance of safety for newborns. He stressed the need for regular weight checks of children and timely vaccinations, which he said are very important for healthy growth.

The inauguration was done by officiating medical superintendent Dr Amit Raj and dean academic Dr Sanjay Pandey. Senior doctors including Dr Mukta Agarwal, head of obstetrics and gynaecology, and Dr Bhavesh Kant, head of neonatology, also attended the launch. Other faculty members such as Dr RK Mondal, Dr Ratesh Nair and Dr Hushmukh Jain were also present.

Throughout the week, AIIMS Patna will organise different activities like poster presentations, outreach programmes, rangoli competitions and basic life support (BLS) training for security guards. Doctors said these events are meant not just for awareness but also to help people and staff gain practical skills. The hospital hopes the campaign will encourage families to take better care of mothers and newborns.
