Training held in Wokha to empower women health volunteers under NUHM

A two-day training programme under the Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS) initiative of the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) was conducted on May 8 and 9 at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer’s Office in Wokha.

The training aimed to equip community-based women’s groups to take an active role in promoting health in their respective wards, support health workers during outreach activities, and monitor beneficiaries.

District Community Mobilizer Echungbeni Tsanglao, who facilitated multiple sessions, explained that MAS groups serve as grassroots advocates for health promotion, bridging the gap between communities and public health services. She spoke on key topics including social determinants of health, community vulnerability, and integrated health planning.

Oponthung Kinghen, Consultant at the Urban Primary Health Centre in Wokha, highlighted the importance of community participation and the MAS model in improving access to essential public services.

Other sessions were conducted by resource persons Viroko (BPM), Mhonlumi (BAC), Abemo (DAA), and Khomo (DAA), covering the formation and functioning of MAS groups, fund management, and organizing local health initiatives.

A total of 78 participants from across Wokha town took part in the training.
